Juvéderm® is hyaluronic acid in the form of a colourless gel which is injected into facial tissue. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring complex sugar found in most tissues of the human body such as skin and cartilage. The average adult human body contains 7-8 g of hyaluronic acid, approximately half of which is found in the skin, where it plays a vital role in maintaining normal skin structure and function. Cross-linking is a scientific process in which individual chains of hyaluronic acid are bound or cross-linked together. A higher concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid ensures greater stability of the product in the skin, which results in a longer duration of effect and minimizes the need for touch up injections.
